Unique Fescoes Are Hidden From Tourists

The Heraclion Archaeological Museum on the Crete Island, one of the main sights of Greece, was suddenly closed for restoration till October 2008.
Not so long ago Greece began working hard on the reconstruction of Acropolis, but in spite of that the restoration of Museum on the Crete Island is developing with total powers. The expanses on the repairing of the main edifice and the building of other two administrative blocks is 21 million Euro, three quarters of which were allocate by the European Union.
The final decision of restoration of the Crete Museum was adjusted in one day only. They did not manage to notify the tourists beforehand and some excursions, which had been planed, had to be canceled. The ministry of Greece decided to help at least somehow the unfortunate tourists who chose this summer in order to see the sights of the island. At the beginning of the week a temporal exposition of 400 exhibits was opened, instead of the one of 15 thousand of exhibits that the museum had. The Minister of Cultural Department of Greece, Iorgus Volgarakis assured that the exhibition offers all the best of it. “We didn’t leave aside the famous and public’s beloved masterpieces”, he said.
The exhibition contains the historical periods beginning with the Neolithic epoch till the centuries of Roman emperors. The wish to get the whole museum in just one small exposition didn’t bring the best results. The unique collection of Minoan culture (III-II century BC) frescoes from the Crete palaces was pressed by the other exhibits. But the museum owes its status of the most visited one precisely to these artifacts.
As a matter of fact an exhibition of Minoan Frescoes and the demonstration of the unique exhibit, of the most mysterious archaeological finds in the world - the clay object called “The Fetish Disc” would satisfy well enough the tourists of the years 2007-2008. People of all over the world come here to see precisely these showpieces.
