This is Part 3 of a series of articles.

You can also arrive on Nantucket Island by private boat. Nantucket offers some very exceptional marina and mooring services on the Eastern Seaboard. Some services available include:

• Madaket Marine: This is a full service marina located in Madaket on the West end of Nantucket Island. The company offers all boaters needs, everything from used boats, repair, to winter storage and slips. The marina can accommodate boats up to 30 feet long.

• Nantucket Boat Basin: Full service marina in the midst of Nantucket’s rich maritime history, which accommodates boats from 30 to 300 feet. They provide thoughtful amenities and innovative services.

• Nantucket Moorings: Advanced reservations are suggested. There are 125 moorings available to transient boaters located in Nantucket Harbor.

You may choose to arrive on Nantucket Island by taxi or private car service. Some of those services include:

• 24 Limousine and Airport Service: This is a great alternative to taking a bus from Boston or Providence to Cape Cod. Enjoy their complimentary drinks, snacks and cellular phone access. They provide service to and from Hyannis and Boston Logan Airport or Providence T.F. Green Airport.

• Escort Coach Limousine: This is a transportation service from Boston Logan Airport, the Providence T.F. Green Airport or the train stations to Nantucket Island Ferries.

• Kings Coach Limousine Service: Provides service to and from island ferries and Boston Logan Airport, Providence T.F. Green Airport or any train station in between.

The next step in planning your Nantucket Island, Massachusetts getaway vacation is determining how you will get around once you get there. The majority of visitors find it is best to leave their car behind, unless your particular circumstances warrant you bringing your car. If you plan to stay for a short visit it is very easy to get around Nantucket Island by bus, taxi, and bicycle or rental car. As for me, this is perfect. I rather let someone else do the driving while I just enjoy the sights. A bicycle would not be my style either. When I visit Nantucket Island in Massachusetts I will use the shuttle bus or taxi for transportation within the Island.

Getting around by Shuttle Bus

Nantucket Shuttle Bus Transportation: The Nantucket Regional Transit Authority provides convenient, seasonal shuttle bus service. They are available from ferry terminals and the Nantucket Airport.

The shuttle bus also provides you with safe and convenient transportation that helps control traffic congestion on Nantucket Island. They know exactly where they are going and drive with much more experience than I could ever dream of doing! This would definitely be a choice for me. I would most likely be one like “Olive Oil” who suddenly caught sight of something breathtaking and forget I was driving a car. This would not be a good thing for me and other travelers on the island!

All the shuttle buses are handicap accessible and able to carry bicycles, usually about two. There are designated shuttle stops conveniently located along each route. These stops are marked by grey posts with red and maroon stripes. There is elderly and disabled van service available as well on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.

Getting around by bicycle

Nantucket Island, Massachusetts is an ideal spot for bicycle enthusiasts. It is not the least bit uncommon to see many bicycle riders on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. There are miles and miles of paved, flat bicycle trails that provide access to Nantucket Town, Siasconset and many of the Island’s most popular beaches. In addition, you will find on and off road bicycling opportunities.

Getting around Nantucket Island by Taxi

This is a very convenient way to get around the island. Taxis can be easily found as soon as you arrive at the airport and ferry docks.

Getting around by Car Rental

If you still prefer to get around by car, Nantucket Car rental services are a popular way to explore the island. There are several companies in Nantucket that can meet your needs.
